SafeTruckRoute FAQ
1. What is SafeTruckRoute?
SafeTruckRoute is a nationwide service designed to help truck drivers avoid low bridges, weight restrictions, and unsafe detours by validating routes against real-world restrictions.
2. Is SafeTruckRoute available nationwide?
Yes! While the project began in Pittsburgh, SafeTruckRoute is being built to serve drivers across the entire continental United States.
3. How does the route validator work?
The validator checks your planned route against datasets from DOTs and OpenStreetMap to flag restrictions such as bridge heights, weight limits, and hazmat rules.
4. Do I need special software to use it?
No. SafeTruckRoute is web-based, so you can access it from any device with an internet connection.
5. Will this replace my GPS?
SafeTruckRoute is not a GPS replacement. It’s a validation tool that works alongside your GPS to ensure your route is truck-safe.
6. Is SafeTruckRoute free?
During the beta phase, the validator is free to use. Subscription plans will be introduced later to support nationwide datasets and advanced features.
7. How accurate is the data?
SafeTruckRoute uses official DOT datasets and OpenStreetMap contributions. Accuracy depends on the quality of each state’s data, but our goal is to continuously improve coverage.
8. When will nationwide coverage be available?
The MVP starts with a few states, then expands. Full continental U.S. coverage is the long-term goal.
